Jonathan Short - Managing Director
Jonathan has worked in the recycling industry for over 20 years, joining the family run scrap metal business in 1985 after graduating with an honours degree in accountancy. During the mid 90s he developed the waste recycling business of Short’s, a strategy driven by the newly introduced landfill tax. He saw an opportunity to further develop waste recycling by treating the waste at source and this resulted in the forming of Alternative Waste Solutions Ltd in 2000, now re-branded as AWS Eco Plastics Ltd. Initially the business installed balers into packaging companies, collecting the recycled paper and plastic produced. By 2003 the trading of recycled material led the growth of the business and during 2005 the decision was taken to concentrate on the trading of plastic in preference to paper. He has driven the company to be at the forefront of mixed plastics processing within the UK with a principal focus on the sorting and treatment of mixed plastic bottles for industrial applications and most recently for direct food contact.
